Why Adoption?

When James 1:27 tells us to “visit orphans and widows in their distress” it doesn’t define or limit the scope of what that looks like and as a result it can take many forms. For some it’s sponsoring a child they may never get to meet in person. For others it may mean a trip to another country to love on orphans in person. And for yet another group, it may mean opening their hearts and homes to give the fatherless a family through adoption or foster care.

The current condition of orphans globally can best be described as a crisis, with numbers well over 150 million and far too few people caring for them. But the good news is that God has shown the Church how to respond. God chose us to be part of His family...adopting us, allowing us to call him Father and receive the promise of His inheritance (Galatians 4:4-7). This is at the heart of the gospel...and we who have been adopted should realize it more than anyone. Can there be a more intimate way to defend the orphan than to remove them from it?

The Answer

Our hope is to see the American Church rise up and live out one of the most literal applications of the gospel through domestic and international adoption and foster care. The example is clear. The need is undeniable.

Our hope for adoption also includes seeing native residents responding to the orphan crisis within their own nations. Adoption is not for Americans alone and we are committed to equipping and serving nationals to adopt orphans from their own communities.

What Now?

While international adoptions from Haiti are currently suspended as they re-examine their adoption process, the global need persists.

Is God calling you to open your home, your heart and your family to grow through adoption? The biggest step is to say “yes” to God. The rest are details. The journey isn’t always easy, but you don’t have to go it alone. As God stirs your heart, let those who have gone before help guide the way. Here are some great resources to get you started.
